I have been involved in graphic design since the early 1980's and my approach to design deals with thinking about the long term aspects of a project and how to make the design communicate its message to the masses.

 

I was trained at a time before the first Mac came out in 1983 and on this page you will see a laser printed birch plywood "bluesbox" that plays african and american blues music and a poster about lonliness during the pandemic along with other graphic design projects and ideas.

 

 

 

 

This is a logo design for proposed Oasis bar and grill in Cambridge, and the design deals with putting all elements with cactus acting as a martini glass along with the olive and toothpick.

This data visualization talks about Obamacare for blacks and in terms of more blacks get liver and kidney disease, diabetes, Covid-19, heart disease etc. and how historically blacks have contracted these diseases more than whites with whites having health insurance more than blacks.

A poster design done at the beginning of the pandemic that deals with loneliness and isolation in dealing with covid in a "safe space" such as the Beaver Brook reservation in Waltham, Mass which was closed to the public in 2019 and how covid changed the way we congregate as humans with masks and testing, vaccines.

For women of color in Boston, an agency called "Joyce's Choices" that helps families deal with job searches, a food bank, testing and vaccines, therapy for clients in dealing with the toll of covid and also they offer zoom meetings for clients.

This project deals with how jazz and blues musicians who were involved in the civil rights movement and how John Coltrane composed "Alabama" and the 1963 church bombing in Birmingham in which 4 little girls died at the hands of the Klan.

This poster design is based on the Northstar of which runaway slaves followed to freedom to the North and Canada and the design deals with creating the path for slaves to follow and using a typeface that shows the star as a primary symbol in which its used a guide.

Hair discrimination for black youth is real and using jute rope as an example of how black hair, is always being policed by society & its mental health toll on young people being told that their hair does not fit standards of white beauty.

This project uses a "w" and a star from this particular typeface and the "w" is repeated to make the christmas tree along with the star as ornaments hanging from the branches.

Vinyl or Digital and which makes for a better listening experience? This project deals with a record collector who lends his collection to Spotify and the debate is streaming better compared to vinyl which is making a comeback especially among young people who are used to digital music downloads compared to vinyl records.

The pet rock craze from the 70's is getting a reboot in that the design shows actual rocks are dressed like rock stars, wigs and all, on a stage, including instruments like pianos and guitars, drums.
